Pray for Pastors in Sudan

Many of you know that my husband and I have a heart for Sudan. We recently received an email from a friend who works in Sudan through E3 Partners. Our church partners with E3 and has taken a trip to Sudan the past two summers with them.

As you can imagine, Sudan is a difficult place even for nationals to work. Pastors not only preach and shepherd their churches, but additionally provide for their families through other means (since many Sudanese churches don’t – or can’t – tithe.) Add extreme conditions of poverty, sickness, and war on top of the normal church challenges, and you can quickly see how tired and overwhelmed pastors can become.

One of the E3 national staff members recognized the need for rest and refreshment last year, and planned a retreat. About 80 pastors attended, and it was from this conference that some self-selected to leave their hometowns to plant new churches.

This year, they are planning to hold the conference again (starting Monday, 7/21) and – get this – they are expecting between 800 and 1,000 pastors to show up. Word spread, and the conference is attracting not only Sudanese pastors, but some from Northern Uganda and Congo as well. And the best part? The conference is a 100% Sudanese-led event. Not one Westerner is coming or helping with the planning and organizing.

So why am I telling you about all of this? With this much potential for God to move mightily comes an equal potential for the enemy to attack. These pastors need our prayer. I’ve pasted below the specific points from the email. Would you pray through the weekend with me over this conference?

Specific Prayer for the agenda
The theme is Ephesians 5:14-15 “for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said:
“Wake up, O sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,”

· Revelation 2 and 3 – bible exposition of the seven churches
· Assurance of salvation
· Christian family – What it means to have one.
· Living in the Spirit world
· Unity in the body of christ
· Christian warfare – spiritual warfare
· First steps – e3’s church-planting training

Thanks, blogging friends! I’d love it if you left me a quick note in the comments if you are joining our little online prayer team.

  1. Do they (or you) have an email list for prayer? I said a prayer for them just now, but I’m not sure I’ll continue to remember to pray for them, though I’d like to.
